About Oliver
I enjoy speaking in public. I enjoy speaking in professional settings. And I enjoy teaching. I've done a variety of informal teaching positions in the past, most notably with delivering courses related to animal welfare with the RSPCA. I decided to go into vocal coaching after working with a friend who needed to give speeches for a position at my university's student union, and two friends who wanted practice in talking in a professional manner as they were nearing the end of Medicine degrees. They said I greatly helped them and that I should try my hand at tutoring. I don't have qualifications directly related to giving speeches and teaching, but my background in psychology, neuroscience, and sales give me enough experience that I feel comfortable doing so.

My teaching idealogy is to work with the student to figure out what they want to get from the sessions (done in advance of the lesson itself), then focusing on their shortcomings as a speaker first to bring everything to an acceptable baseline. Then we will develop their individual style as an orator. For instance if someone is practicing to give a toast or a speech at a wedding, throughout the lesson I will give them a topic without warning and they will have to talk about it for 60 seconds uninterrupted. This develops the ability to make a point concisely and be able to respond to questions or 'audience participation' in the wedding scenario.
Lessons have a typical duration of 30 minutes, and instead of having one lesson a week, it would be 2 lessons a week. I base this off studies done in educational psychology which demonstrate that frequent, short periods of study result in greater information retention, and my own dislike of hour long lessons.
