About Belinda
I am a qualified teacher with 10 years experience teaching numerous subjects from Gr. R to Gr. 12. As an educational therapist I have helped students (ages 7 to 18 from a wide variety of backgrounds) who find learning difficult, especially with regards to spelling, study skills and memory. I have a masters degree in Psychology, thus supporting students not only on an educational level but also on an emotional level is very important to me. I am also qualified as an online TEFL/TESOL teacher and fully equipped for such a role for students of all ages.

As a teacher I am creative, flexible, focused on making learning a pleasant experience. For me, independent, lifelong learning is the ultimate goal in education.
I always start of by establishing good rapport with students by having. light-hearted, introductory conversations. Here is also where I establish what the needs of the learner are, and tailor my teaching strategies accordingly.
Depending the student's age, I plan lessons that focus on optimal learning,
I.e. catering for different learning styles (visual/auditor/linguistc/kinesthetic). I make use of digital media, a white board, a variety props (e.g puppets for young students), or even music and movement - whatever creates a successful learning experience for the student.
For subject-based touring, I use the student's own academic curriculum to build lessons that stimulate problem solving and critical thinking skills, training students for independent learning. Questioning based on Bloom's taxonomy is essential to the development of these skills, and is applied in all lessons. I provide guidance for this thinking process, as critical thinking does not always come naturally to all students.
When the goal is to learn English, I begin lessons in a similar, informal manner. Lesson content and structure is, in this case, dependent on what the student wants from the lessons. This may vary from learning English from scratch, to simply expanding vocabulary or improving grammar. Formal teaching aids, like textbooks, are used for lesson content where and when applicable. To practice conversational English, however, I generally choose topics that are familiar, or of specific interest to the student.
