About Katherine

My name is Katherine and I am a Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages, who holds a PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status. Born in the UK, after finishing my studies, I made St. Petersburg in Russia my home for almost a decade.
I prepare pupils for both GCSE and A Level, for which I have had a lot of experience as a former Head of Russian. I also have many years of experience teaching German and I have worked as an Examiner for one of the main exam boards. As a result of this experience I have excellent knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Russian and German GCSE and A Level. My pupils achieve excellent results.

In addition to teaching GCSE and A Level Russian to learner candidates, I also prepare native speakers for these exams. The A Level demands particular focus because the exam board requirements dictate an understanding of social, cultural and historical aspects, for which a native knowledge of the language alone will not guarantee success. I am happy to create bespoke courses on literature or film for native speakers wishing to be entered for the A Level exam.

I also tutor adults, who are learning a foreign language for different purposes.

About the lesson

I adapt my approach to teaching depending on the needs of the learner. Before the first lesson I talk with the student in order to get a good understanding of their aims and their previous experiences.

As a teacher of Russian and German as a foreign language, I have a good understanding of those aspects of the language which learners will find particularly challenging and can fully empathise and use innovative methods to help overcome any difficulties.
