About Alexi

I have more than 10 years teaching experience, and have been running my own tutoring company in Darwin since 2019. I have been learning German as a second language informally throughout my life, and formally at both high school and university level. Besides school exchange trips and holidays, I also lived in Germany for 3 months in 2024. I was the German language teacher for a school in remote Queensland for two years, and have been the after school German language tutor at Darwin Languages Centre since 2023. In both these roles, I work with students from Transition to Year 10. In other teaching roles, I have worked with students up to Year 12, and adult learners. I completed a Certificate IV in TESOL in 2020, which has increased my language teaching skills for both English and German.

About the lesson

Lessons can take place at my venue in Tiwi, or at your home for an additional fee. Lessons are 50 minutes long (at venue) or 1 hour (at home). Sessions in your home are at a rate of $72/hour, while sessions at my Tiwi venue are at a rate of $66/hour. I offer a 5% discount off the total rate for siblings. My goal is to help students reach the "a-ha!" moment, especially if there is something they have really been struggling with. I use a holistic approach, drawing connections across various subjects to help students understand; and incorporate a number of techniques, including hands-on, repetition, movement, art/craft, music, technology.

Please note that rates apply to Northern Suburbs only. Travel costs starting at $10 apply to destinations including CBD, Palmerston and beyond. Please note that rates are per student, per hour. I am willing to tutor small groups, capped at 3 students. First lesson is a maximum 30 minute freebie, meet and greet. This helps me to find out what the student needs to work on, and what strategies may be best. Parents/guardians are required to attend this session so that we can all get on the same page regarding expectations.
