About Samuel

In 2014, I graduated from Padua College with an OP1 and hopes to get into Medicine. I have since completed an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at QUT in 2017, and have been tutoring for 7 years since I was in grade 9 myself! I have had 9 diverse private high school students in that time, which I have seen ranging from grade 7 to grade 12 level. All of them have improved under my tutelage. Now I am working casually as a Sessional Academic at QUT, and have over 650 students in the classes I demonstrate Anatomy and Physiology in. I am capable of tutoring High School Biology in most forms, and capable of teaching university first year anatomy and physiology concepts confidently. For my high school students, I am also very capable in English, Study of Religion and Health, and have tutored in the past Mathematics A and B, Physics and Chemistry.

About the lesson

I believe every student should be treated differently, and that has always been my approach to tutoring my students. My students have ranged in ability from failing grades trying to pass, to 'A' students wanting to reach the pinnacle of their ability. Naturally, my lesson structure and teaching philosophy is directed differently to both of these scenarios. I will generally use the first lesson to grasp the ability and attitude of the student, to best suit my future lessons for maximum efficacy. However, I do have some consistent simple teaching philosophies for all my students:

1. Always ask me questions! Never feel afraid to interrupt me and tell me you don't understand.
2. I am not here tp do your work for you, we can plan, edit, and even write things together! Yet I have always seen the permanent best results come from the students themselves.
3. Tell me if I'm wrong. I have always thought it wrong to place a tutor in some position of 'all knowing'. I know I don't know everything, and it's amazing how much I have learned from my students. It's part of why I love teaching.

A typical lesson would entail a debrief, followed by a plan of attack which is enacted, and a review at the end of the session, with a detailed recommended plan for my students to continue working without me.

I have a current Blue Card issued in 2018.

My rate is negotiable for multi-hour sessions. Eg: I tend only to charge $30/hr for 2 hour sessions. I am willing to negotiate with you for long-term tutoring deals.
