About Grace

Hi! I'm Grace, a recent Biological Natural Sciences graduate from the University of Cambridge. Courses taken include evolution (plants & animals - including human), ecology & physiology (plants & animals) & palaeontology. I have ADHD, which during school & early university made focusing on course content, not getting lost in my own questions or stuck down 'rabbit holes' of content not on the syllabus immensely difficult. I had to develop study methods to work through this, I am happy to help those with same condition as I understand the difficulties faced. Beyond the classroom, I've undertaken fieldwork investigating the effects of brownfields (land affected by human development) on invertebrate communities. I've also undertaken an independent geological mapping project, which required vast knowledge on the local biology to aid understanding the North Wales' landscape's underlying geology. I'm a person who loves to be outdoors more than at a desk & understand the 'conventional' methods of studying A-Levels & GCSEs can be very dull - I love to create fun ways of learning, I do believe a key aspect of succeeding in exams is learning to have fun with the material :D

About the lesson

Session length is flexible & I will facilitate to individual educational needs. I like to be interactive & encourage independent thinking. Biology is a very visual subject. It's all around us, constantly - on a macroscopic & microscopic level. I have ADHD, so have first-hand experience with difficulties this poses to studying & overcoming the barriers it's given. I can empathise fully with students who suffer with this and care deeply about making sure they receive the treatment, support & adjustments that they deserve. As a field, Biology is immensely progressive. For those keen to look beyond the syllabus & explore how this applies to school syllabus, I'm also more than happy to help younger students explore scientific articles, helping explore more specialised interest & complex ideas beyond the school syllabus, for their own interests or university preparation. I like to use lots of examples, diagrams & flow charts to explain concepts, I facilitate all A-level & GCSE exam boards (AQA, OCR, WJEC, CIE & Edexcel) alongside KS2. Happy to teach anything from the course syllabus to helping prep for exams! Natural Sciences Tripos, I specialised in geology but spent the first two years primarily as a biologist.
