About Sarah

Hi! My name is Sarah, I am a 22 year-old graduate with a First Class Degree from the University of Southampton in Modern Languages: French, Spanish and German. I started learning French and Spanish in school and picked up German from scratch when I started university 4 years ago. I now work part time in the translation industry and am living full time in Berlin!

I mentored in languages throughout sixth form, tutored in German during my final year and also helped my little sister through her Spanish A level, so I have experience! Although the 4 aspects of language learning are all important (Reading, Writing, Oral and Listening), I know that most often people struggle with the oral element. Because of this I try to focus on increasing fluency and more importantly confidence among tutees when it comes to speaking in the target language, but I will let the lessons and the learning outcomes be guided by them and what they want to work on. In this way I will mostly play a supportive role; teaching where knowledge lacks and being a friendly face where confidence lacks. :) Every languages student has been there - not wanting to talk, feeling awkward, things not making sense and I can help you overcome these as well as any cultural differences you don't understand or bits of history, literature or politics etc you are learning as part of the course. I am happy to work on a 1:1 or with small groups if that helps you to relax and you prefer working with friends. Regardless, I very much look forward to hearing from you soon!
