About Mariacamila
I immigrated to Canada when I was 10 and had the opportunity to participate in specialized language programs. Through an immersive learning environment, I became fully fluent in Spanish, French, and English before the age of 13. I can tell you firsthand that it was a lot of fun!
I was fortunate to have teachers and mentors who helped me develop the tools to express and shape my thoughts in different languages. That experience strongly influenced the way I approach language learning today.
My experience with the education system has given me the opportunity to participate in French programs that focused not only on learning the language, but also on discovering its rich cultural dimensions. Through these experiences, I have observed different teaching techniques and learning environments and have developed my own approach by combining the elements that have helped both myself and others succeed in learning a language.
I don’t believe that strict grammar drills, vocabulary lists, and repetitive exercises should be at the core of language learning. While having a strong foundation in grammar and structure is important, I believe that language truly develops through dynamic, spontaneous, and meaningful interaction. Giving students the tools they need and then encouraging them to use those tools creatively allows them to build confidence and expand their knowledge naturally.
For me, learning is fostered by guided curiosity and creativity. My role as a tutor is therefore not simply to teach, but to guide students toward their own interests, encourage them to ask questions, and create an environment where they feel comfortable experimenting with the language.

My teaching style focuses on practical, active, and engaging learning. Rather than only memorizing grammar and vocabulary, students will have the opportunity to apply what they learn through conversations, activities, games, and real-life scenarios.
Each lesson can be adapted to the student’s age, level, interests, and academic goals, from complete beginners to high school students.
1. Overview & Learning Goals
Review the student’s current level and identify areas to improve.
Introduce the key topics and objectives for the lesson.
Connect new concepts to situations the student might encounter in real life.
2. Learn Through Context
Introduce new vocabulary, grammar, or expressions through a practical situation.
Use short texts, dialogues, videos, songs, or clips to help students understand how French is actually used.
Explore topics that are relevant to the student’s interests and everyday life.
3. Practice Through Activities
Put new vocabulary and grammar into practice through interactive exercises.
Use conversation activities, role-playing, games, and challenges instead of relying only on worksheets.
Encourage students to speak and participate as much as possible.
4. French & Québec Culture
Depending on the student’s interests, lessons can incorporate elements of Québécois culture.
This allows students to discover French beyond the classroom while becoming familiar with different accents, expressions, and ways of speaking.
5. Real-Life Application
Students will finish the lesson by using what they have learned in a realistic situation.
6. Review & Progress
Review the vocabulary and concepts covered during the lesson.
Identify what the student feels comfortable with and what needs more practice.
Provide a small activity or challenge to reinforce the material before the next session.
