About Jaylin
I am a recently qualified teacher. Although I have specialised in teaching Life Orientation, I have years of experience in teaching and tutoring a variety of subjects, especially mathematics. I struggled a lot at school, and it took some very special tutors and teachers to get me those distinctions in Matric and pave the path for the journey I'm on today. I know more than most what it can be like to struggle at school and sometimes even be too shy to ask for help. I believe with the right support, every student can excel.
After achieving 7 distinctions in matric, I went on to study a year of Science and the University of Witwatersrand, later transferring to a Bachelor's degree majoring in Psychology. From there I went on to complete my honours in Psychology, and later my Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

I believe in exploring different ways to approaching the same problem. Sometimes a student just needs things be explained slightly differently for them to understand completely. I prefer using the student's own homework and class work as a foundation to my lessons. From there I can learn about their areas of difficulty and devise my own resources, exercises and notes for them to practice with. Usually, I like to focus a lesson on an area of difficulty, so that the learner is able to concentrate on that area alone and not worry about the rest of the curriculum until they feel capable at what they struggled with before. I do not give excessive homework, but I do encourage learners to try their hand at questions and problems on their own.
As such, I love teaching mathematics until grade 9, and mathematical literacy until grade 12. I also have a lot of experience in tutoring English until matric, focusing on poetry reading, essay writing and comprehension.
