About Raphael
Introductory physics was the toughest class I ever took in college. And yet, it is what I decided to major in. I love physics. I loved teaching physics for over 30 years to students, even though most of my students, even those at The Bronx High School of Science, were never planning to pursue any field in science, let alone physics. However, I saw from the start of my teaching career that even students going into business, law, or the humanities could enjoy learning physics, even though it was hard. I've had many students returning years after graduating telling how much they enjoyed my classes, even remembering many of the funny things I would do to motivate them.

Hi! I taught physics to high school students for over 30 years in several schools, including The Bronx High School of Science. I've also tutored students in physics after I retired. I have a master's degree in physics.
My goal is to tutor students high school level and introductory college level physics. Of course, I can and will help with exams, but my expertise is not on test-taking skills for any particular exam like the AP, IB, etc. My expertise is physics, and my students did very well on their end-year exams (New York State Physics Regents exam) because I concentrated on teaching them the science. Of course, we cannot ignore test-taking skills, and I can certainly help there as well.
There are many physics teachers smarter than I, but I doubt there are many as patient as I. Physics is very tough! It was very tough for me as well! My job as a tutor is not to impress you with my knowledge of physics, though I do have the knowledge. Instead, I see my job as one where I first, and most importantly, listen to my student(s) to understand what the confusion is. I am great at explaining difficult concepts, and while I don't think anyone can make physics easy, I definitely can make it a lot easier, and maybe just a little fun!
I will be working online using Zoom, or similar tools on Superprof. I can prepare lessons in advance if you choose, or simply start by taking your questions and taking it from there. After 30+ years teaching physics I am keenly aware that not all students learn the same way. An explanation that sounds great to one student might not work with another student. My lessons will always be tailored to the student(s). My teaching experience has also taught me what concepts students usually have difficulty with, what errors they are most likely to make.
