About Sandra
I am a passionate and dedicated Maths tutor . My main goal is to assist pupils in understanding the fundamental concepts of Mathematics while building their self-confidence in the subject.
I taught Maths for 27 years in South Africa (all ages in both state and private schools). I also tutored pupils privately in South Africa for 17 years as well as 3 years in the UK. In the UK I tutor pupils up to the ages of 16 (NAT 5/ GCSE) in both the English and Scottish Mathematics curriculum.

The most important thing I have learned in my 27 years of teaching is to be able to isolate and analyse the gaps in fundamental and basic mathematical concepts that may be present in a pupils’ knowledge. Once this is done these topics can be focused on and reinforced to ensure the pupil has the correct knowledge, and confidence, to be able to apply their knowledge in all areas of Maths. I normally hold my lessons online and on a one-to-one bias.
The steps used in my tutoring program are detailed below:
1) The first step would be an assessment of the concepts or areas with which your child needs assistance and guidance. I will discuss the findings with the pupil and parent.
2) An individualized program will be constructed to suit the pupil's needs.
3) Continued feedback to keep parents informed on their child’s progression.
4) Pupils will not only be shown methods to apply but will also be shown how and why these methods work. This will help pupils to understand what they are doing.
5) Integrated into the sessions will be the development of Mathematical vocabulary and problem-solving skills.
