About James
My passion for good business writing developed over 35 years as a Chartered Professional Accountant and Information Technology consultant.
I've had to produce countless proposals and reports, most for a demanding audience, on a deadline, with my career success on the line. I've also been on the receiving end of innumerable work emails and lengthy corporate directives that left me wondering what the writer was really trying to say and how I should respond. Does this sound familiar to you?
Teaching night school as a contract professor at two Toronto universities and two community colleges, I discovered that some of my best business students were struggling, not because they weren't mastering the course material, but because they couldn't write clearly, concisely and quickly enough. Helping these students become better business writers gave me great satisfaction.
As your personal business English coach, I will make specific, practical suggestions to improve your writing and help you apply them hands-on.
I look forward to working with you.
James Campbell, BSc, MBA, CPA (ret.)

First, we'll explore together which aspects of your business writing may need some work:
- Are any struggles with English grammar or syntax making it harder for you to communicate with co-workers effectively?
- Are you unsure how to pull together that important business report coming due?
- Is your inability to write clearly and QUICKLY unfairly reducing your test scores on the essay questions?
- In your line of work, do you often need to combine words and numbers to make a convincing argument?
- How can you adapt the writing skills acquired in your arts & science studies to a business audience?
Then, I'll give you specific feedback on real examples of your business writing as we work together to improve your skills. Our guiding principle: LESS IS MORE.

Kingston, Ont.• I directly reported to James (Jim) when I worked as a business analyst for a financial services company. I still work in the industry for a different firm leveraging skills Jim taught me every day.
• Writing business and systems requirements can be complex and I remember the gentle, considerate reassurance and tutelage he provided to me in navigating challenging situations.
• Jim was my manager when I was appointed IT Work Stream Lead when the company unveiled a new visual identity. This was a tightly held secret; only a handful of employees assigned directly to the project knew the company was going to be rebranded. Over 30 work items, including the redesign and relaunch of all company websites, were successfully deployed over one "cut-over" weekend.
• I would recommend Jim as a Superprof Business English tutor because he taught me simple things like responding to questions presented in bullet point form with concise, direct answers in the same format.View more recommendations
