About Kaera
I've been passionate about science and sustainability my whole life and completed my undergraduate degree in microbiology and biochemistry as well as graduate work in biotechnology. I spent 3 years in Hong Kong teaching at a prestigious learning center and discovered my love for helping students grow. I quickly became the most requested instructor for students lacking confidence as my teaching style is highly customized and emotionally sensitive. I came away with an appreciation for teaching through building confidence and independence. Now that I'm back in my hometown of Durban, there's nothing I'd like more than to combine my loves of biology and education - knowledge is no good unless it can be shared!

In my 3 years as a teacher, I've helped many a shy student blossom. I'm passionate about connecting with my students and ensuring they leave a lesson with a newfound confidence and ability to keep learning on their own. I am patient, gentle and encouraging. There's no such thing as a dumb question in my lessons! I have hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques in biochemistry, microbiology and biotechnology and am excited to share the fun of biology with you. I conduct lessons in English and can be your teacher at any level, from primary school to university (Bsc). Whether you are just starting out with the basic concepts of biology or trying to grasp high-level honours degree material, I'm an excellent communicator who can break down any idea into fun, easy-to-understand terms. A typical lesson with me begins with an overview of the material, a discussion to gauge your understanding and what we should focus on for the day, followed by hands-on exercises to practice. No lesson will end without me getting your feedback so I can better tailor my teaching to your needs.
