About Anetta

Hello, my name's Anetta and I’ve been playing the drums for 20 years. Over that time I've worked extensively playing live, recording, touring nationally, and collaborating in the songwriting process.

The music I am most excited about is usually somewhere in the rock realm, more specifically I love alternative, angular, post punk and shoegaze styles. That said I have an appreciation for all genres, and what I value most is emotion through rhythm.

I’ve been tutoring one on one lessons sporadically over the past 10 years and ran group lessons for a couple of Girls Rock! holiday programs in Melbourne prior to the pandemic.

I love sharing my passion with people who are getting started out behind the kit, empowering new drummers with skills and techniques to protect their muscles on a physically demanding instrument.

I want to share the excitement in being able to absolutely nail a new beat, and celebrate with you after our lessons are over, when you’re recording an album with your best mates.

About the lesson

My lessons can either be tailored to be full hour, or half hour blocks.

I focus on building a foundational knowledge, including:

- rudimentary sticking techniques
- hearing and understanding rhythm
- breaking down beats and patterns for you to learn and play yourself

I will ask for a few reference songs that you’re interested in learning, and will work from there. My students will gain a strong foundation in full drum kit practice and be able to pull apart the drum parts to their favourite songs.

I’m against using sheet music, but on request will write out beats and patterns for students' reference if that is the way they learn best!

I’m interested in teaching all kinds of people how to play the drums, and am well suited to teach from absolute beginners to intermediate level students. I have a working with childrens check and am happy to teach anyone who has a real drive to learn drums!

During our lesson I couldn’t help but learn theory because Anetta patiently and seamlessly wove it in to all the parts of the songs I was learning. I was having so much fun I almost didn’t notice! But by the end of our first lesson I had learned a classic 4/4 rock beat and was working on paradiddles, flams, and the complexities of the chorus of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’
