About Hiroki
I am a former Japanese national team coxswain with 17 years of experience in rowing (coxing), including winning the Japan National Championships and setting a national record. I also won a silver medal in the Scottish Championships. In addition to my competitive career, I worked as an assistant coach for a university rowing team in Japan, supporting both technical and mental aspects of athlete development. I hold an MSc in Performance Psychology from a UK university and a BA in Educational Psychology from Japan. My background combines elite-level rowing experience with academic knowledge of how athletes think, learn, and perform under pressure. One of my coxing recordings has received over 110,000 views on YouTube, and I continue to explore how mindset and communication influence performance. Based in Southwest London, I offer online or in-person sessions for rowers and coxes of all levels.

Lesson Content: From Observation to Transformation My sessions are based on real material from your rowing: either rowing training footage or coxing recordings. We use these as starting points for a conversation-based exploration of your psychological state and mindset during training or competition. Through dialogue, I aim to guide you towards greater self-awareness and fresh perspectives on your performance. Method: Reflect, Analyse, Reframe Together, we reflect on what you were thinking, feeling, and focusing on. I guide you through analysis using principles from performance psychology to help you shift unhelpful patterns and build stronger mental habits. Rather than offering direct instructions or quick fixes, my sessions are designed to help you develop the ability to reflect on your own performance and make meaningful changes independently. This way, you can continue to grow and improve long even after our sessions have ended. Background & Approach With an MSc in Performance Psychology (UK) and international rowing experience (including as a Japan Champion, Japan national athlete, and student-athlete in a high-performance UK university), I bring both academic insight and practical understanding to our sessions. Format & Who It’s For Sessions are available online or in Southwest London. They are suitable for rowers and coxes of all levels – from beginners looking to build mental foundations, to elite athletes seeking marginal gains through mindset work.
