About Ella

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I first began playing violin and competed at various competitions and festivals whilst growing up. I auditioned for and was successful at gaining a place at the prestigious National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music for my secondary school education from 2009 to 2014. I studied voice, piano, clarsach, and fiddle here under outstanding tutelage. I then went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

I am a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2019) with a first class Bachelor of Education Music (honours). I studied voice, piano, musicology, history of music,haccompaniment, musicianship, Kodaly method, and pedagogy. I started teaching piano and music theory in 2016 and have been doing this ever since! I was then a secondary school music and music technology teacher in the west end of Glasgow after graduating. I returned to university in 2021 and I am now in my third year of medical school at the Glasgow University.

About the lesson

I am an experienced piano teacher based in Glasgow who travels to your home for lessons. I have been teaching for 8 years+ and teach in 30 minute, 45 minute and 60 minute increments. I teach a variety of styles and am happy teaching to exam syllabi or just for the joy of learning. I have used ABRSM and Trinity syllabi and have a 100% pupil pass rate with 75% of my pupils achieving merits or distinctions. I am also fully PVG disclosed.

I have been teaching piano and music theory for 8 years. I have a first class honours degree (Bachelor of Education Music (hons) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2019) where I studied piano and voice. I was then a secondary school music and music technology teacher for 3 years. I have since returned to university but continue to teach privately.

I am happy teaching from ages 6 upwards and use a wide range of materials, resources, and techniques to encourage and inspire my pupils. I use an approach centred around building a firm foundation of piano technique, musicality and building piano player's confidence. I firmly believe that regardless of the reason for taking piano lessons, everyone should get a chance to experience the joy of music! If you are interested in lessons for a child under 6 years old, I am happy to discuss on an individual basis.

I teach from the comfort of my pupil's home to ensure that travel costs are mitigated for learners - some find this off-putting due to the cost of getting a piano but most pupils start off on an electric keyboard, meaning lessons from the comfort of your own home are much more affordable.
