About Vivien
Hello, my name is Vivi!
I have a BSc honours degree in Zoology and an MSc with Distinction in Neuroscience and Translational Medicine. Zoology is the science of animals and all other areas of environmental sciences related to them. I wanted to be a zoologist since I was 10 years old. I deeply believe we should learn how to share our planet with wildlife because if people stick together, we can make a difference. One of the most significant reasons people are destroying the environment and feeling distant from wildlife is that they simply do not know enough about these wild creatures. I aim to help people get closer to wildlife so that they can experience how amazing and magnificent creatures we share our planet with.
My other area of interest is neurotrauma and neuro-oncology. I am passionate about neuroregeneration and the utilization of stem cells and immunotherapy to cure diseases, including neurodegenerative conditions, glioblastoma, and traumatic brain - and spinal cord injuries. During my Master's studies, I specialized in neurotrauma and researched human traumatic brain injury.
My aim in working as a tutor is to introduce students to the mysteries of biology and to help students reach the best grades they can. Everybody is different. Everybody has different interests and passions in life. However, I do believe every aspect of life can be brought a little closer to everybody. Maybe biology is the most difficult subject for some students and that is totally OK, but I am sure that with hard work, drive and help, everybody can improve in anything.
I hope we can work together!

My name is Vivien. I graduated from the University of Southampton with a BSc in Zoology, then pursued an MSc in Neuroscience and Translational Medicine at Queen Mary University of London. I have been tutoring A-level Biology for 4 years now, with experience in AQA, OCR, and Edexcel exam boards. My philosophy is "Teach the way you would want to be taught". There are no two students with the same capabilities, same interests, same passion, same goals. Biology is a mysterious, fascinating subject opening doors to the greatest discoveries. I appreciate some students may not be biology-centered, they might find this subject challenging, and that is OK. However, I firmly believe, that with hard work and dedication, every student can live up to their highest potential. That is when a tutor stands up to their student. My goal is to show my students the beauty of biology, even when they think it does not make any sense. I do believe every aspect of life can be brought a little closer to anybody. I consider myself a dedicated, enthusiastic tutor who always listens to the student's needs and requests and who works together with the student to achieve the best result a student can achieve.
I typically start the first lesson by asking the student about their learning style, and the topics they would like to cover, and then we solve a few exam questions together. The following lesson is spent covering topics the student requested before the lesson, and solving exam questions on that particular topic we have covered that day. Then, I create a study plan for the next 1-2 months, so we can systematically build a great foundation of knowledge for the student. I advise them on how to apply their knowledge to the questions and discuss keywords examiners look for in answers. If the student has difficulties writing essays, I would give them a topic, discuss the requirements and ask the student to write and send an essay over to me before the lesson, so we can discuss any improvement necessary to achieve a high mark. My lessons are typically 60 minutes long.
