About Izzy
Hi, I’m Izzy and I am here to help students between 4-16 to learn English as either a subject within school, or as a second language. So, why pick me? I have previous experience (3 years) of tutoring the subject, I hold a valid TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) qualification as well as having previous SEN experience. I achieved an 8 at GCSE in English and a Distinction in English as a spoken language qualification. What would be taught? If your child wants help on English as a subject: I focus on essay writing, coursework and revision, with a particular interest in the style of writing and fluency. I will help you or your child to gain confidence in the subject and apply my tips to other subjects. As a language: I will start off by teaching the basics of the language, helped by the use of visual cues. We will then build upon this, also incorporating writing and listening as well as speaking. My lessons vary from one child to another so I offer a completely free introductory lesson so I can get to know the child and to test their current abilities. From then on, the start of the lesson would be dedicated to an exercise which builds upon what was taught the previous lesson. We will then talk through any homework and any possible questions. Depending on their progress, we will move onto a new challenge where I will be sure to implement previous knowledge from lessons to help the child remember the content effectively. Every few lessons, we will go over exam tips and revision practice, which the child will implement outside of the session.

As previously mentioned, I am a tutor with 3 years of experience. I also hold a TEFL qualification, which sees me to be fit to teach English as a second language, without the need for speaking the child’s native language. This technique has proven to be extremely effective. I am keen to engage with students to understand their needs and how I can support. As I am 18 myself, I believe my age does not affect my ability negatively, rather allowing me to be on the child’s level and understand them better. Despite this, I will be sure to maintain a professional demeanour as well as tracking the students’ progress which will allow both myself and the parents to support the student in the best possible way.
