About Ken
I am a fully qualified science teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience teaching Key Stage 3 Science and GCSE Combined Science, as well as separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have taught across a wide range of abilities, from building confidence and core understanding to stretching higher-attaining students towards top grades.

My approach to tutoring is calm, supportive and highly structured. I focus on breaking down complex scientific ideas into clear, manageable steps, using practical examples and exam-focused techniques to help students really understand the content rather than just memorise it. I place strong emphasis on exam skills, command words, required practicals and common misconceptions, helping students feel confident and well prepared.
Having held senior roles such as Learning Lead and Assistant Curriculum Leader in Science, I have extensive experience with GCSE specifications, assessment requirements and effective revision strategies. I am particularly skilled at identifying gaps in knowledge and adapting explanations to suit different learning styles.
Above all, I aim to build students’ confidence, curiosity and independence in science, helping them achieve their full potential in a positive and encouraging environment.
