About Alice
Hi there! I am Alice, and I am in my second year of university, studying medicine at the University of Bristol. I am so excited to learn more about the human body and healthcare, and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to help other people through studying a subject that has always greatly interested me.
In my GCSEs, I worked very hard to achieve nine grade 9s and one L2D*. This allowed me to study subjects that really interested me at A-level, and my love for science allowed me to achieve four A* grades in biology, chemistry, physics, and maths. I also achieved a grade A in my EPQ about legislation and respecting the wishes and feelings of people with dementia. For my medicine application, I scored 3030 in the UCAT.
I have been tutoring on the MyTutor platform for over a year, helping students with science at the GCSE and A-level level. I really enjoy helping students to understand topics which they may have struggled with in the past, and I hope that this will allow me to share my love for science with students! I understand that everyone learns at different speeds and in different ways, so I try to make each lesson individual to the student and build off of feedback to ensure that the student is learning effectively.

At the start of each lesson, I ask my students what they would like to go over in that session. I feel confident in the GCSE and A-level content so I have become skilled at adapting the lesson to whatever the student feels they need to go over.
If the student wants to cover content, I will use the specification to guide the lesson and use information from a range of online resources, such as BBC Bitesize, Physics and Maths Tutor, and Save My Exams. I will always try to end the session by doing some exam question practice so that students can understand what exam questions are asking for and how to structure their answers. In particular, I use mark schemes for processes and long-answer questions such as required practicals as then the content that I am showing the students will be sure to score them marks.
If the student wants to go through past papers, we will go through a past exam paper together, discussing answers and exactly what the question is asking. I will often use the mark scheme to ask the students questions to try to structure their answers and I will point out which questions I have seen come up more often. If there are any gaps in knowledge identified whilst doing exam questions, I take time to go through that content.
Sometimes, I do not know/remember the answer to some questions. If this is the case, I tell the student and I will look at reliable resources online to remind me or go through mark schemes with students to understand where we went wrong.
