About Ryan

Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Western Sydney University, with Mathematics and Biology as my teaching areas. I’m working towards becoming a secondary school teacher and particularly enjoy helping students understand Math in a clear and logical way.
I completed my secondary education in China, where I developed a strong background in Mathematics and Science, and I’m now continuing to develop my teaching skills through university study and school placement experience in Australia.
I want to tutor because I enjoy the moment when a student goes from feeling confused about a topic to being able to explain and solve it independently. I also see tutoring as a valuable way to gain more teaching experience while supporting students with their schoolwork.
I’m patient, approachable and happy to explain a concept in different ways if the first explanation does not work. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gradually becoming more confident in Mathematics.

About the lesson

My Math lessons are designed to help students understand the reasoning behind each method, rather than simply memorizing formulas or copying solutions.
I usually begin by checking what the student already understands and identifying exactly where they are getting stuck. I then explain the concept step by step, work through examples together, and gradually move towards independent practice.
I can help with Years 7–10 Mathematics, including algebra, equations, graphs, geometry, measurement, statistics, problem-solving, homework and test preparation. Lessons can also be adjusted to focus on particular topics students are currently studying at school.
As a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) student specializing in Mathematics, I use teaching strategies from my university studies and school placement experience, including questioning, worked examples, guided practice and checking for understanding.
My goal is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing confidence in Mathematics. Lessons are available both online and face-to-face and can be adapted to each student’s level, goals and learning pace.
