About Shana

I'm Shana, a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education at a London-based university, where I specialise in training the next generation of secondary Physical Education (PE) teachers. Before moving into higher education, I spent over a decade in secondary schools as a PE teacher and Head of Year, giving me a grounded, practical understanding of what students at every level actually need.

I hold a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, a PGCE in Secondary PE and a CMI Level 7 Award in Leadership Coaching and Mentoring, and I am currently completing a Master's in Education Leadership. My background spans the classroom, pastoral care and professional development, which means I bring more than subject knowledge to every tutoring relationship.

I am deeply familiar with the demands of GCSE, A-Level and BTEC PE across the major exam boards, and I stay current through my ongoing work in teacher education. My students benefit not just from someone who knows the content, but from someone who understands how learning works and how to make it stick.

I take tutoring seriously. Every student I work with receives structured, consistent support, including session summaries, progress tracking and tasks between lessons, because I believe accountability and transparency are just as important as the teaching itself. I hold high expectations because I know what students are capable of when they're given the right support.

About the lesson

My sessions are designed for secondary school students studying PE at GCSE, A-Level or BTEC level who want to genuinely understand the subject, not just get through it.

As a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education, I bring professional-level expertise that goes beyond what most tutors can offer. I train the teachers who go on to teach PE, so I know the curriculum, the exam boards and the common pitfalls inside out.

Every session is tailored to the individual student. I use a range of techniques, including direct instruction, guided questioning, exam-technique practice, and applied examples, adapted to how each student learns best. Sessions typically run for 60 minutes and are conducted online, with flexibility to suit the student's schedule.

What makes my approach different is the structure around the sessions themselves. Between lessons, students receive targeted tasks to embed their learning. I provide a written summary after every session, covering what was discussed, next steps, and recommendations, so students and parents always know exactly where things stand. Progress is tracked throughout, so improvement is visible and measurable.

I have a strong working knowledge of AQA, OCR and Edexcel specifications and offer homework support alongside regular tuition. Whether a student is struggling with the theoretical components, needs to sharpen their exam technique, or wants to build confidence ahead of assessments, sessions are focused, purposeful, and held to high standards.
