About Ruthwik

I am a postgraduate student at the University of Edinburgh, but outside my academic life I have always lived very close to music, poetry, stories, and the quiet emotional patterns behind things. I play guitar, sing, write songs, and write poetry, and I see music as one of the most natural ways people learn to express what they cannot always say directly.

My background is unusual because it brings together science and art. I come from engineering, mathematics, physics, signal processing, and research, so I naturally look for patterns, rhythm, structure, and the “why” behind things. But I am also deeply drawn to literature, philosophy, films, cosmology, songwriting, and creative expression. That mix shapes the way I teach. I do not like teaching guitar as a dry set of finger positions. I like helping students feel the instrument, understand it, and slowly make it their own.

I am patient, intuitive, and encouraging as a teacher. I enjoy breaking things down from the roots: how a rhythm moves, how a chord changes the mood, how a lyric can become a melody, how singing and guitar can support each other, and how even simple songs can carry real feeling. I especially enjoy working with beginners because I understand how intimidating an instrument can feel at first, and I like turning that fear into curiosity.

For me, guitar is not just about playing songs correctly. It is about finding confidence, expression, and a small personal language through sound. My aim is to help students learn in a way that feels relaxed, imaginative, and meaningful, whether they want to play favourite songs, sing along, write their own music, or simply begin their journey with the instrument.

I see guitar as more than an instrument; it is a way of turning feeling into structure. My teaching style combines practical guitar skills with poetry, singing, songwriting, philosophy, mathematics, and the physics of sound. I like helping students understand not only where to place their fingers, but why a chord feels warm, why a rhythm creates movement, why silence matters between notes, and how lyrics and melody can grow from the same emotional root.

I approach guitar the way I approach learning in general: from the roots. A strumming pattern is not just a hand movement; it is rhythm, timing, repetition, and feeling. A chord progression is not just a sequence to memorise; it is tension and release, almost like a small emotional equation. Even the sound of a string carries physics within it: vibration, frequency, resonance, and the way small changes in pressure or timing can change the whole mood of a song.

My lessons are patient, imaginative, and intuitive. I use analogies, stories, patterns, and simple explanations so students do not just copy songs mechanically, but begin to understand how music breathes. For students interested in songwriting, I also bring in poetry and storytelling: how a line can become a lyric, how a feeling can become a chord, how a melody can carry meaning, and how even a simple song can become a small world of its own.

I want students to leave my lessons with confidence, curiosity, and a personal relationship with the instrument. Whether they want to learn basic chords, sing while playing, understand rhythm, write songs, or simply feel less afraid of the guitar, my aim is to make music feel alive, approachable, and deeply their own.
