About Mark
I think I may have covered most of this in the other section but! - I've been playing for 15 years and have always loved music. My favourite genres are 70s rock n roll and acoustic singer-songwriter, but I go through phases of loving every genre and playing them too. Soft, heavy, quiet, and loud! Less is often more so getting the balance between technicality and feeling for me always leans more towards feeling your own playing, enjoying what you naturally lean towards (rhythm; lead; speed; patience; etc.) I think it is important to get a balance between structure and free-playing ideas. Learning scales all day is no one's idea of fun. For me, it is fundamentally about being able to make your own sounds that you enjoy. There is, of course, a technical element here that is necessary, but that will come with time. I think playing something that you're proud of is important from the very beginning. Smoke on the Water is a beginner's classic for a reason!

My lessons first and foremost focus on communication. What is it that you are looking to get out of learning - a deeper understanding of music theory? Being able to write songs yourself? Generally looking cool and rocking out? We'll work together to allow you to deepen your (hopefully!) love of music. My lessons vary in length depending on how long you require, anywhere from 20 minutes and exercises to go home with or a longer hour where it can be more free flowing or structured depending on what you are after. I tailor lessons depending on your age and experience, but think it is so important, even from the beginning, to learn songs that you know and don't know, so you can begin to feel part of the writing and creating process. Also, not just playing a chord, for example, but improvising with it, using different strings and rhythms, whatever comes naturally to you - there is no pressure to be anything but yourself. I, myself, have been tutoring for 5 years now and have wonderful relations with all the kids and their parents. (I'm happy to teach adults too, may just have to remove the animals on the chord sheets!) I make all my own supplies/sheets/etc, so can again tailor these to what would suit you the most.
