About Jeanne
I have been playing music for nearly 60 years and played professionally for 40+ years. I'm semi-retired but still love teaching music to students and love to see my students develop the musical skills and love of music. This is why I teach music. I have toured internationally, played on CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN (in Tokyo, Japan), received awards and commendations from mayors, as well as the California State Senate and the United States House of Representatives. My bands have won awards at the local (Los Angeles) level, the state level (California) and the national levels. In addition to playing and teaching numerous instruments, I also write and arrange for bands and groups at levels ranging from elementary school students to professional groups.

I am semi-retired and have won many awards in my career. I still love teaching music and my favorite age to teach is middle school and high school. I have over 30 years experience teaching music, in addition to over 40 years of professional playing experience. While I don't play live any longer, I still love teaching students and giving them the gift of music. I still have many previous students contact me and tell me how much they learned and how much they loved being in my classes. And I have many parents who thank me for what their son or daughter learned in my music classes. Here are my techniques and philosophy: 1. I believe every student can learn music if they really have the desire to do it. 2. I can teach the most basic beginner how to read, write and understand music, and play what they learn on their instrument of choice. 3. I don't teach strings or piano, but I encourage using and understanding basic piano when working with theory lessons. I'm hoping to offer guitar lessons at some point in the future. 4. I do teach beginning and intermediate electric bass guitar. 5. I teach percussion, including drums (concert drums), marching band percussion including some pit percussion and drum line. 6. I am a trumpet player of over 50 years and I teach all of the woodwind and brass instruments. 7. I have my Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and my Master's of Education from California State University Northridge. 8. I start my students wherever they are in their musical progress and go from there. I find out what their goals are and design a plan that works for the student and their current time situation. We look at short term, middle and long term goals and create a logical, sequential plan to work for each student individually. Music theory is emphasized throughout. 9. The curriculum itself is tailored to each individual student as I have taught from many different method books, theory books and solo works. The lessons will use all of these resources and the students will be required to purchase them as needed. 10. I require that students be able to commit a certain amount of time each week to practice and study of the materials I give in each lesson. The amount of required time will increase with the age, ability and goals of the student. 11. If the student plays in an ensemble at school or somewhere else, we will also focus on perfecting and playing that music well.
