About Janet
I think English has a huge human aspect to it. Understanding cultural norms and imagining how other people might respond to a piece of writing requires a high level of emotional intelligence, which is why I believe English is so important.
The same message can be communicated in many different ways, with each approach producing a different response even when the underlying content remains the same. Understanding the impact of these choices, and how language can shape the way a message is received, is what I believe lies at the very essence of English.
I also believe it's important to build an easy rapport with students at the start, making the student feel at ease, putting the student in a position where they would feel comfortable asking questions, for example, and getting a complete understanding of the material at hand.

I believe it is important in English writing to learn from other writers and analyse the techniques they use to evoke particular emotions. Students can read examples, identify the techniques being used, and then recreate similar techniques in their own writing to create a specific mood or evoke a particular emotion in the reader.
For primary school students, the focus tends to be more on grammar, sentence structure, complexity, and developing the flow of their writing.
Lessons are normally 60mins.
