About Floyd

My name is Floyd Graham. I'm a contemporary music graduate from Southern Cross University in Lismore N.S.W. I've been in love with the act of music making since I played my first guitar at 5 years old. I was writing my own musical songs at 10 years old. In 2013 I graduated the HSC with the highest scores in New South Wales' Eurobodalla shire. In 2016 I graduated my music degree, showcasing a 40 minute music performance in which I wrote, scored and orchestrated the music for 8 original songs, featuring a total of 8 instruments. In 2017 I completed an honours program in sample based eco-acoustic composition and produced a thesis, and a 10 minute eco-acoustic sound-art composition about eco-acoustics, environmentalism, and electronic music.

In 2018 I am working as a freelance music tutor - teaching students a small repertoire of musical instruments; performing as a solo act in a variety of venues in Melbourne, and performing as a saxophonist in a band of fellow SCU graduates; composing, designing and producing music for students of Melbourne's VCA master's program in live theatre production, and offering intensive classes in sound production, and software based music composition through the use of the industry standard Digital Audio Workstation "Pro Tools".

About the lesson

My teaching method is designed to provide my students with the competency and confidence to use Pro Tools as an instrument for music composition, audio engineering, mixing, producing, editing and mastering music. I introduce my students to the joys, conveniences and practicalities of digital audio software, and teach them from the ground up so that they may apply their skills to whatever musical, or auditory endeavours that their hearts may desire.
Creativity is central to my classes. Students will learn a basis of sound production understanding through engaging creatively with music technology and implementing sound production theory through digital music making.

Floyd is a knowledgeable and friendly musician, producer and sound engineer. We were lucky enough to spend some studio time with Floyd and were very happy with our experience. Floyd set up the mics, recorded the session and mixed the tracks - he is an absolute legend to work with and we received and amazing result working with him. I would reccomend Floyd to any budding musician looking to develop their skills in the home studio, and to anyone who wants to gain the skills to make it in the industry.
