About Ella

Hi! I’m Ella. I did my A levels in 2024, achieving an A* in Spanish, and am now pursuing a degree in Social Anthropology (with Spanish) at LSE. Spanish was always my favourite subject at school, but that didn’t mean it came without its challenges. It’s a difficult but rewarding subject, and nothing beats the feeling of realising you can express your true thoughts and ideas in another language. If you are looking for someone to beat you into shape, I am probably not the right tutor. My style is more encouraging, casual, and easy-going. I believe we can work together to get you feeling more assured and confident. I have long had a passion for tutoring and education, and have been tutoring for 4 years. I have tutored a range of English, Maths, and Spanish across different ages, and across voluntary and private work. In 2023, I volunteered at a school in Guatemala, teaching English and Maths to young students (lessons conducted entirely in Spanish). My experience is not specialised for teaching the entire GCSE or A Level curriculum. I would recommend my tutoring as a form of extra support to target any areas you are struggling with.

About the lesson

Learning Spanish doesn’t come naturally to everyone - the grammar, conjugations, vocabulary can be difficult, and it’s natural to encounter challenges. As someone who has built my Spanish level completely from scratch, I would love to support you alongside your studies. Whether it’s sharing my golden tips and tricks that will help you wrap your head around the trickier parts, exploring themes and ideas together, or providing comfortable and low-stakes speaking practice for your oral exams, I can help you feel confident and happier with Spanish. For Spanish A Level students: I studied under the exam board Edexcel, and studied El Laberinto del Fauno and La Casa de Bernarda Alba. I achieved very high marks in my written paper and can provide extremely detailed support with themes, language, symbolism, and quotes specific to these texts. I can still help with other texts, but this may be more focused on essay technique. So how can I help? I can help you with: - your IRP: choosing the topic, exploring themes, advice on how to research effectively, mock exams and oral practice - understanding tricky grammar: different subjunctive tenses, perfect vs imperfect, reflexive verbs, etc - essay technique: advice on how to create a good essay plan, making your vocabulary more sophisticated, set phrases to help with creating a clearer structure, tips for effective quote analysis, help with creating a thoughtful conclusion, etc - speaking practice: casual conversation, exam style questions on specific themes, getting more confident with spontaneous speaking, advice on how to sound more natural, etc - exam help: how can you revise effectively? In conclusion, I can provide a helpful combination of specialised support and personal insight. I will create a relaxed, supportive, encouraging environment that is hopefully also fun!
