About Paula

I am a Spanish MA graduate, currently working in London both as an actor and as a Spanish teacher. I have more than 10 years of experience in language teaching and private tutoring. I work with a wide range of students, both children and adults and my experience has provided me with the capacity to make sure I find the appropriate method for each student, adding an extra level of focus on their specific requirements. My classes include a wide range of language skills and additional language support, from general tutoring (beginner to advanced), conversation, pronunciation, diction and fluency, to understanding regional accents, classical Golden Age plays and verse. I also provide help with preparation for exams A-Level, AS, Common Entrance, Degree, and GCSE. I also bring support with Drama and Admissions to Drama schools. My experience as an actor has given me great tools for language teaching and communication skills. I can be flexible with my times and areas, according to the clients. About the lesson

Spanish teacher in London. My lessons are tailor-made for each of my students depending on their needs and goals. I have developed my own bespoke system to teach. I work with dynamic and flexible tools, giving a lot of attention to detail to untangle the complexities of Spanish grammar. Perfect! Paula is a natural teacher. My energetic boys (5 and 7 yo) were totally engaged throughout her lesson, she teaches through play which meant they didn't even realise they were learning but just enjoyed themselves with a warm, enthusiastic young woman.

I am originally from Spain.
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
I am a great fan of the literature of the Golden Age, so many incredible writers lived in that period such as Cervantes and Teresa de Jesús.
Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?
I love how the Spanish language is warm, bright and influenced by many cultures. The vowels are open and round, direct and friendly just as our ¡Hola!
Why does speaking this language matter to you?
It is my mother tongue and I love sharing my passion for language, I am a tutor and an actor, and words and communication are my element.
What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?
Grammar can be challenging, having to differentiate between two genders and memorising verbal conjugation, but throughout the years, I have created exercises that make these challenges easy and actually quite fun to embrace.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.
When I was really little I used to make up words ... I actually had my own dictionary! Some of the terms were really funny ... I called dogs "guaguaus" instead of Perros and cats "miaumiaus" instead of Gatos ... apparently, in my head that is how they sounded like when barking our meowing : D
How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?
Living abroad, here in London, and learning English as an adult has given me incredible tools to teach others in the process of learning or polishing a language.

My passion for words and communication, I actually really love and enjoy my work helping others to access my mother tongue.
