About Šimon

I have a BA from Spanish and Czech. Both languages and teaching are something I've loved since childhood. I started learning Spanish at 10, and then got a chance to take part in an exchange program in Mexico at high school.

Five years later, I spent my Erasmus in Spain at the University of Salamanca.

I have been busy with studying as I am still a student working on my MA, but I have taught quite a few students privately over the years (it started as helping out my peers all the way in elementary school), some of whom were preparing for entrance exams to their desired high schools and once even for a Master's program, and they were all admitted.

I will do my best to make understanding and learning Spanish as straightforward as possible.

About the lesson

First we start with a grammar topic that I explain.

Then we try to learn it by e.g. finding examples of this in a text/recording, and then when the student is confident enough, they create their own examples in our one-on-one conversation that I guide in a way we use the new grammar elements as much and as variedly as possible.

I also like to learn vocabulary by thematic groups, e.g. animals, clothing, household chores etc. because I found it more effective than the way most textbooks go by giving us just bits and pieces here and there and the vocabulary of a lesson is a very disparate group of words, some of which can also be way too advanced for that stage of learning. I always aim to make the classes experience-appropriate. It doesn't make sense to teach students the past subjunctive when they can't even name all the main colours (which is what I have seen even at university level!)

Ultimately, though, the lesson format depends on you. YOU know what you need the best! So tell me what works best for you and I will try to accomodate you. I always carefully prepare before the lessons so I can give you well thought-out examples of the grammar phenomena, and the smoothest definitions to make understanding them as easy as possible without having to resort only to faulty memory. Language becomes intuitive with practice, you know how to use it, however, the explanations need to be prepared in advance as they should be precise and scientific, and that takes some time. Many tutors don't do that but I believe clients deserve the best possible service for their hard-earned money, and I want to see them progress as fast as they can instead of slowing them down by not preparing adequately thorough lessons.
