About Sean
My name is Sean Maloney, and I’ve been playing music since I was 10 years old, starting out on drums playing Bon Jovi songs. Before long, I picked up the guitar and discovered a passion not just for one instrument, but for music as a whole.
What drew me deeper into music wasn’t only the emotional impact of it, but also the curiosity behind how it works — the structure, logic, and science that make music so powerful.
After earning my degree in Music Theory and Applied Sciences from the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, I began teaching guitar lessons and developing my curriculum, Music Theory Made Easy: a 30-page guide designed to simplify concepts that many musicians are told are “too complicated” to understand.
My goal as a teacher is simple: to remove the intimidation from music theory and help students realize that music is far more understandable — and accessible — than they may have been led to believe.

My goal as a teacher is to help you move beyond simply memorizing songs and become a musician who can confidently understand, navigate, and play freely across your instrument.
To make that possible, I’ve condensed the core concepts of music theory into 30 easy-to-understand visual guides and lessons, including:
- All 12 key signatures
- The 7 musical modes, their relationships, and how they differ
- Commonly used scales
- Chord construction and naming conventions
- Soloing over chord progressions
- Modal interchange and borrowed harmony
- The mathematical structure behind music theory
- Applying theory directly to your instrument of choice
Lessons are taught one-on-one in weekly hour-long sessions, and every student receives a digital copy of the curriculum.
The course begins with the fundamental building blocks of music theory and gradually expands into more advanced concepts in a way that feels approachable and practical.
Teaching music theory is my greatest passion, and I’m excited to help students discover that theory doesn’t have to be confusing or overwhelming. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to deepen your understanding, we’ll start at your current skill level and build step by step toward a broader understanding of how music works.

Sean is a great teacher! When we did lessons together, he taught me how to more effectively use modal notes in improvisation to enhance my guitar solos, and I’ve used that ever since! Sean is an amazing live player, a great teacher, and a very friendly guy. He went to the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media for Guitar Performance and I can’t recommend him enough!
Sean is an expert on music theory and is very good at explaining it. He can also teach you how to play any kind of song of any kind style exactly how it’s played.
Thanks to Sean, I can actually play the guitar now. Super grateful to be his student.
Sean is extremely knowledgeable about music and sound engineering. His great attitude and years of expertise in the music industry make him the perfect person to learn music from. If you're looking for a music teacher that will clearly and confidently explain high level concepts to you in a way you can understand, look no further!
Sean has been teaching my son for a couple of years now and when I say it is unreal how much he improves with every lesson is an understatement. Sean’s knowledge of his craft is second to none and his ability to teach it to others in a way that is easy to understand is an amazing talent in and of itself. I couldn’t recommend Sean enough. We love Sean!
Sean has been teaching music and playing in a wedding band for years. His knowledgeability is only matched by his ability to teach in a way that is simplified and makes sense. He is very good at verbally explaining how and why, as well as explaining it in a written way.
