I am an emerging student affairs professional. For the last year, I have served as a Graduate Assistant for Western Illinois University's Career Development Center. My philosophy centers around student development. In the Career Development Center appointments I have had and the presentations I have given, I always be sure to explain the how and why as opposed to just saying what needs to be included. I prefer to start my appointments by asking students what they are looking to go into and what their strengths are. Then, I ask what specifically they would like to receive feedback on. I focus on their prioritized need before giving additional feedback.
