About Troy
I have earned my B.A. from Skidmore College as an Honors Computer Science major with Summa Cum Laude distinction. Currently pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science with a focus on Machine Learning at Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. Participated in 3 research opportunities, using convolutional neural networks to accomplish multi-object tracking through video, machine learning theory and periodical attentive units in recurrent neural networks to improve temporal capacity. All of which pushed the boundaries of artificial intelligence. I have previously been employed as a Data Engineer creating ETL (extract, transform and load) processes for large data consumption. A Solutions Architect analyzing system architecture in the AWS public cloud to ensure applications have security, high fault tolerance, low latency, performance/cost optimization and high availability. Lastly, a Software Engineer where I participated in the software development life cycle creating new features and updates for an application.

I aim to prepare my students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in academia or/and the industry. I accomplish this by focusing on fundamental understanding of topics from a theoretical and mathematical point of view in order to gain an upper hand in academia. Furthermore, drilling down on industry best standards and working on actual engineering projects will give students an upper hand in landing their dream job. But, above all else I value the ability to communicate and express complex topics simply. As Albert Einstein said, "If you can't explain it simply, then you just don't know it well enough".
