About Spencer
Hi, I’m Spencer—a dedicated and approachable tutor with a strong academic background in math and the sciences. I’m currently a biology major at The College of Wooster, where I’ve successfully completed challenging courses in chemistry, biology, and algebra. Back in high school, I consistently placed in math competitions, which helped sharpen my problem-solving skills and gave me a deep appreciation for how math concepts connect and build on each other. Beyond academics, I’ve worked in both clinical and educational settings, where I learned how important clear communication, patience, and professionalism are when helping others succeed. Teaching Method & Techniques
I start by identifying where a student is struggling—whether it’s with foundational concepts or problem-solving strategies. From there, I break complex topics down into manageable steps and use active learning techniques like questioning, guided walkthroughs, and spaced repetition. I also like to connect lessons to real-world situations or student interests to help the material stick.
Typical Lesson Plan
A standard session begins with a quick review of any homework or previously covered material. Then we introduce the new topic through explanation and example problems, followed by guided practice. I always leave time for students to ask questions and recap what we’ve covered to reinforce learning and build confidence for next time.
