About Emily
Hi! I'm Emily, a dedicated tutor specialising in Spanish and German. My academic qualifications include achieving A grades in A-Level Spanish and German, with GCSEs at Grade 9 (Spanish) and Grade 8 (German).
I’m a university student studying French and German at the University of Manchester with a passion for languages and helping others learn them. I currently speak four languages and am working on a fifth, so I know how challenging and rewarding language learning can be. My upbringing in a Latin household emphasised the value of immersion as essential to deeply learning both a language and its cultural context. Over the years, I’ve acquired the skills and techniques that make the process more efficient, and tailored to each learner. My aim is to tailor each lesson to your specific aspirations, e.g. travel, career advancement, personal growth, or academic examinations.
I’m especially interested in supporting students working towards GCSEs, A-Levels, or language proficiency tests like the DELE for Spanish or the Goethe-Zertifikat for German.

I start by discussing each student’s individual goals to tailor lessons specifically to their needs. For students studying GCSE or A-Levels, I follow the exam specification closely to ensure lessons cover exactly what’s required, making our time together efficient and relevant.
Lessons include working on exam-style questions, as these often follow predictable patterns. I help students become familiar with these formats so they feel confident and prepared on test day. I also focus equally on all four language skills: reading and listening (passive), as well as writing and speaking (active), to develop well-rounded proficiency.
Grammar and vocabulary work is integrated throughout and complements the student’s own studies. We review any mistakes they’ve made in homework or practice, so I can specifically address those areas during our lessons.
Progress is measured through regular practice and feedback to ensure lessons remain productive. My main objective is to create an encouraging atmosphere where students feel comfortable making mistakes and seeking clarification.
