In order to gage where my students are I will ask them a few questions on their current level of math and where exactly they need help in. From there each class will be split into different sections. First will be a small lesson, then practice problems, then a game around where students will be challenged to answer problem game style. My lesson approach is a very causal one. My students will be comfortable to ask my anything related to the topic and even unrelated to the topic.
