As a teacher, I believe in getting to know my students' needs right from the start. Before diving into any lesson, I take the time to understand where each student is struggling or needs extra help. This way, I can tailor my teaching to their specific challenges and ensure they get the support they need to succeed.
I prefer to take a step-by-step approach to teaching. Starting from the basics and gradually building up to more advanced topics allows my students to grasp each concept thoroughly before moving on. This method not only builds confidence but also ensures a solid foundation for future learning.
I've found that longer teaching sessions, around 1-2 hours, work best for my students. This gives us enough time to delve into the material deeply without feeling rushed. Plus, it matches well with most students' attention spans, allowing us to maintain focus throughout the session.
My experience as a team leader in high school, where I led various math groups, has been invaluable in honing my teaching skills. Helping my peers understand complex math concepts taught me how to break things down in a way that's easy to understand and support others in their learning journey.
While I have a preference for teaching pre-teens and junior high schoolers, I'm open to teaching students of any age. I believe in adapting my teaching style to meet the needs of each individual student, regardless of their age or background.
Overall, my approach to teaching is centered around personalized instruction, gradual progression, longer sessions for deep learning, and a commitment to supporting students every step of the way.
