About Joanie
Hi there! I am a 20 year old University of Sydney student studying a Bachelor of Education. Through high school I excelled in English, taking both extension courses (1 and 2) and doing Peer Reading from years 9-12. Many of these students went on to take extension English in their senior years of high school. I work at a before and after school care centre, and have been in this position for 3 years now! I am a laid back, kind teacher. I will never discourage a child from answering and approaching a question anyway they see fit. Rather, I will work with them to tackle the question more effectively using methods comfortable to them - tailoring their understanding of literary concepts to achieve the best mark possible.
My lessons are online, and are structured around the student providing me with an explanation of areas that they would like to focus on for the particular lesson. This can include; homework tasks, general questions or clarifications. If there is no stimuli provided for the session, I am happy to work from the NSW syllabus and curriculum, or if the student is located in a different state, their equivalent.
At the end of each session we will have a mini quiz which I will develop based on the previous sessions topics. This type of 'carry over' learning helped me drastically to achieve band 6's in my HSC English.
