At the heart of my practice is the belief of connections between teachers and peers which form the foundation of learning. Through collaboration and sharing knowledge with peers is vital to 21st-century education. All students have the right to learn regardless of socio-economic background, ethnicity or social status.
My pedagogical to education will implement pedagogical approaches of Dewey, Mosston and Ashworth, focusing on more facilitator role rather than an educator. Additionally, I will create an equitable and democratic environment enabling students to voice their opinions without judgment or scrutiny. Dewey’s Educational philosophy aimed at interacting education to experience, creating a democratic community, reflective inquiry aimed at values essential for citizenship. I will approach assessment and learning that focuses on authentic everyday problems.
I strongly believe that the conception of a democratic classroom and equitable classroom is important. Democratic involvement with and education setting helps increase civic-participation and enables the learner to successfully transition into a democratic society (Glaeser, Ponzetto,& Shleifer, 2007). I strongly believe that this pedagogical approach is key to helping develop helping them become active and informed citizens (MCEETYA, 2008), helping them successfully transition to a life after school.
Finally, communication and feedback is a fundamental part of teaching. Though providing constant feedback my students will have a clear understanding of the expectations and requirement to achieve success to the best of their abilities. My aim as a teacher is to empower every student to become active and informed citizens. My passion for teaching is what motivates me. It is this passion and desire that will be transferable to my students to make them the best version they can be.
My name is Callum Baster and I have a Master of Teaching (Secondary) from the University of the Sunshine Coast. My major is Health and Physical education and my minor is Science. I have currently completed two of my three Supervised Professional Experience (SPE). I have taught both my subjects area during my SPE and have also taught other subjects including Mathematics.
I have a strong worth ethic, I am receptive to feedback to further develop my professional practice. I am motivated and driven to deliver the highest quality of lessons that maximise students learning.
