About Thisumi
Hi, I’m a dedicated and approachable tutor with a strong passion for helping students succeed in math. I specialize in tutoring high school students from Year 7 to Year 11, and I tailor each lesson to suit the student’s individual learning style, pace, and goals. I focus on building a solid understanding of core mathematical concepts, developing problem-solving skills, and boosting confidence. My teaching style is patient, supportive, and engaging—I believe every student can improve with the right guidance and encouragement. I’m currently studying for a Bachelor of Nursing, with a background in psychology, ICT, and digital health. My experience in academic and practical settings allows me to bring a well-rounded and professional approach to teaching. I’ve also helped peers and younger students strengthen their math skills through clear explanations and consistent support. As a tutor, I aim to create a supportive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment tailored to each individual's needs and learning style. I use a blended approach that combines direct instruction with interactive and inquiry-based learning. I focus on building strong foundational knowledge, then guide students through active problem-solving and critical thinking. I use real-world examples, visual aids, and digital tools to make learning relatable and enjoyable. I also encourage open communication, so students feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their challenges. Most of my lessons are 60 minutes, but I can adjust this based on the student’s age, concentration span, and learning objectives. For younger students or beginners, shorter 30–45 minute sessions may be more appropriate, while advanced learners often benefit from longer or more in-depth lessons. I have a background in psychology, ICT, and digital health, and am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing. I also have experience as a volunteer in health informatics, which has strengthened my ability to teach both academic content and soft skills like time management, organization, and teamwork. While I’m relatively new to formal tutoring, I have helped peers and younger students understand complex concepts through clear explanations and structured support.
