About Alex
About Me 🩰
I trained at The Royal Ballet School and Elmhurst Ballet School, and toured with The Birmingham Royal Ballet as both a dancer and teacher. I now teach ballet full time as a lecturer on a musical theatre and dance degree, alongside private online tuition. I also work regularly with the British Ballet Organisation and founded the Birmingham Ballet Association to support and encourage adult dancers in their training.

My approach to teaching
My teaching approach is supportive, clear, and confidence-building, with a strong focus on helping each dancer feel comfortable and capable from their very first class. Ballet can feel intimidating, especially for beginners, so I prioritise patience, encouragement, and clear explanations, breaking down steps and technique in an accessible, achievable way.
Lessons are structured yet flexible, tailored to each dancer’s level, goals, and physical needs. I focus on safe alignment, strong foundations, musicality, and enjoyment, helping dancers progress steadily without pressure and at a pace that feels right for them.
Teaching methodology
My teaching is informed by my RAD qualification and Royal Ballet training, drawing on Vaganova-based principles where appropriate to support clarity, strength, coordination, and expressive movement. This blended approach allows technique to be taught in a way that is structured yet adaptable, always shaped around the individual dancer.
Each class is carefully structured, with exercises building progressively to develop alignment, balance, coordination, musicality, and confidence. I place a strong emphasis on explaining how and why movements work, helping dancers develop body awareness and long-term technical security rather than simply copying steps.
Lessons are taught online in a clear, well-structured format, designed to work effectively in a home-based practice space while maintaining professional standards of technique and safety.
Lesson length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, allowing time for a thorough warm-up, focused technique work, and guided progression, while remaining manageable and enjoyable—particularly for beginners.
Home setup
Lessons are designed to be completed safely and effectively in a living room or similar clear space. No barre is required, and exercises are adapted to suit limited space while maintaining correct technique. Guidance is provided on simple setup, positioning, and use of furniture for support, so dancers can train confidently at home.
