Learn more about Amirali

  • At what age did you start practicing this sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started swimming when I was 4 years old. From a very young age, being in the water felt natural to me, and sport quickly became a big part of my life. As I grew older, swimming developed into something much more serious and structured. It taught me discipline, consistency, and the importance of pushing through challenges. That early connection with the water eventually led me into high level water polo and later into coaching, which is now a big passion of mine.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you’d still like to discover?

My main sport has been water polo, which I practiced at a high level for many years as part of the Iranian national team. Swimming has always been a huge part of my life as both an athlete and a coach. I also enjoy gym training and general fitness as part of my lifestyle. A sport I would still like to discover more deeply is tennis, because I admire the discipline, movement, and mental focus it requires.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue this craft?

What motivates me most is seeing my students improve and become more confident in the water. Whether it is a beginner learning the basics, an adult overcoming fear, or a swimmer refining technique, seeing that progress is very rewarding. I also love the discipline and mindset that come with swimming and elite sport. Coaching allows me to pass on my experience and help others achieve goals that once felt difficult or out of reach.
  • Do you have an achievement that you’re particularly proud of?

Yes, I am especially proud of winning the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Championship in Uzbekistan as part of the Iranian national water polo team. I am also proud of competing at the 2019 World Championship in Kuwait. Another important part of my journey was playing for Victoria Phoenix from 2022 to 2025. These achievements represent years of hard work, discipline, and commitment, and they mean a lot to me both as an athlete and as a coach.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better athlete?

My achievements showed me what is possible when you stay committed and disciplined over time. My challenges taught me patience, resilience, and how to keep improving even when progress is not easy. Competing at a high level pushes you physically and mentally, and it teaches you how to stay calm under pressure, recover from setbacks, and keep learning. These experiences made me a stronger athlete and also a better coach, because I understand the process of growth from both sides.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I would choose Michael Phelps. I would ask him how he stayed mentally strong for so many years at the top level, how he handled pressure before major competitions, and what daily habits made the biggest difference in his performance. I would also ask how he balanced training, recovery, and mindset, because that combination is so important in swimming and high performance sport.
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I help people stay motivated by making their progress clear and realistic. I break goals into smaller steps so they can feel improvement from session to session. I also adjust my coaching style based on the person. Some students need confidence, some need structure, and some need to be challenged more. I focus on building trust, creating a positive environment, and helping each student enjoy the process while still improving.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is the combination of elite sporting experience, real coaching knowledge, and genuine care for my students. I have competed at a high level internationally and I bring that professionalism into every lesson. At the same time, I understand that great coaching is not only about performance, but also about patience, communication, and helping each student feel comfortable and confident in the water. I always aim to give personalised, high quality coaching that helps people reach their goals.
