About Christina
I graduated from Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelors of Performance in classical piano, and I myself have been playing for 10+ years with 5 years of teaching experience.
A comprehensive approach to learning piano and music is my goal. Often times our experiences of learning an instrument growing up can be dampened by external expectations, the need for discipline and rigour. I want to clarify that these are absolutely essential to developing a skill, however a broader meaning to these more difficult aspects of learning must be present for the student at all times -- more often than not, this is a natural inclination to express oneself through music. It is the love for music, so to speak.

With a balance mixture of personalised and structured, methodical approach to piano learning, our lessons would first and foremost be dedicated to establishing the needs and expectations of both the student and myself -- why learn piano? What do you envision the role of piano and music to be in your life in the near future? Of course, such questions are difficult to answer, but clarifying this initial desire may assist in making the process of piano learning a more meaningful experience.
What I offer in my lessons will be guidance in the foundational frameworks for understanding and playing piano music, something that will be central and necessary to all styles and intentions of piano playing. These will include:
✦ an understanding of the physical motions associated with achieving speed, fluency, dynamic changes in mood and tone
✦ an understanding of music itself -- how do we most effectively evoke certain moods, 'messages' or feelings in a piece of music. This will be especially important when progressing toward higher levels of interpretation and performance.
✦ music theory and reading skills, basic foundational techniques, short/long term
collaborative goal setting
