About Brent
I am a college student currently going into my freshman year. My USCF rating is 1609. Over my high school career, I have won chess awards like the Board One Varsity Award from the Chicago Public Schools High School Chess Championship 1st place (2019 & 2022), Greater Chicago K-12 Open Tournament 2nd place, and helped my school team win the Chicago Online Chess League (2021 & 2022). In my sophomore year, I wrote a 38-page chess manual for beginners and I encourage people to play chess, no matter their skill level. I want to make sure the game of chess will bring the same joy that I feel towards anyone that plays.

My teaching style is explaining the concepts of chess and then showing them on an online board. I will be as simplistic as possible in explaining terms, strategies, principles, etc. I will have practice games to show where you might need help. I will show you how to review your games to avoid mistakes in future ones. I will also teach tactics to help boost your chances of winning as well as key strategies in repetitive positions.
