• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  1. I have always enjoyed teaching, I find it to be rewarding to pass on learnt experience and make a difference in someone else’s life. I ran a tutoring website which I had sold in 2015, interestingly the buyer offered me BTC in payment which I declined. However, that was the first time I heard of it and by 2017 I decided to step into the world of cryptocurrency and began my career in trading, not just digital assets but stocks as well.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  2. I love teaching the psychology of trading and how it reveals parts of yourself. There is certainly a deeper side to trading that most don't appreciate, it extends beyond the job factor and you discover parts of yourself that become exposed. The market is truly the great revealer in this world, it will humble you or spit you out and we get to decide. Some of the parts I don't enjoy are the idea that traders have a crystal ball of some kind, or a magical gift that we just know what the market is going to do. I find this to be a sticky idea that follows us around but is not true at all. No one knows for certain what the market will do, but there is an opportunity in that fact, the ability to gain an edge.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  3. I like the quote from Ray Dalio, He who lives by the crystal ball will eat shattered glass, I find his story to be inspiring in some strange way. Jesse Livermore, I like his thick-skinned approach and absolute ruthless courage. Reminds me that no one gets to those places without their fair share of pain. I also like Steve Cohen who has one of the most interesting minds in the space.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  4. I think being a really good listener and understanding what it is the student is expecting from learning the skills I show them. Helping them with confidence and letting them feel safe and free to ask anything they like. Also, taking off any pressure is helpful to them and laying down the basics to have a solid foundation gives them direction pretty quickly.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  5. One of the most valuable lessons was learning to become humble and trade without an ego, that I was unable to control the market or wish it in any direction whatsoever. That the truth doesn't bend to my will and if I want to survive I need to understand it, if I want to thrive, embrace it. When I first entered the market I sold one of my properties and put all the profit into cryptocurrency. With a background in finance I thought I had it figured out until I lost it all when I got caught in my first bear market. It was dark but I learnt a lot about myself, I went back to my original choice and realised my arrogance had cost me because really, I did not know what I was doing. In the end, I learnt that pride does come before the fall and the bigger the pride, the more crushing the fall is. I am grateful for the lesson.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

  6. To this day I still have internal battles in terms of my trading decisions and I think every trader experiences that, it never goes away. I find the fight against my flesh arises even after 10 years of trading. I am still human and sometimes break my own rules. Still, I think it's something you can grow in for the rest of your life. There are days when I wake up and life is simply not as rosy as I'd like it to be and it's those times I find the most challenging to stick to my rules. A bit like going to the gym.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  7. I have other passions too, I'd say I am a passionate person. I enjoy windsurfing, although I don't do it much anymore. I am spiritual, I love music and enjoy some creativity. Overall I think we are all trying to find our way and I'm enjoying the chance to share my walk with others, so that it might help them. I love teaching beyond the shallows, and if there is something deeper you take from me, that to me is gold.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

  8. I'm a bit outside of the box of what society calls normal, I see things differently than others but I think that's a good thing. I bring something new, something fresh and hopefully some mind-blows that go beyond the subject itself. If I can teach you a new skill, that's great, if it makes a difference to your life, then I think that would make me glad to be a Superprof.
