About Robyn
I have been teaching and tutoring for over 20 years. I love engaging with pupils on a one-to-one basis. I have had much success as a private tutor with students in maths excelling when initially they were failing. I have worked for several years as a tutor for firms e.g. Basic Concern, Kip McGrath, The Aboriginal Tutorial Assistance Scheme, and Breakthrough Management Services. I have taught English from prep-grade 7 and maths from year 2 to year 8 students.

English lessons basically consist of spelling, writing, reading, comprehension, and grammar from prep to year 6. I use a phonetic approach in spelling and a whole word approach for sight words, sometimes using mnemonic devices. Writing includes recount, persuasive, narrative, and discussion writing for older students. For younger students, I use the approach of sounding out words for sentences with pictures. Reading is encouraged. I have a library of picture books and several chapter books for more able readers. I use recounting with stories, comprehension, and I use online activities with books. I have several years' experience as a Maths private tutor and about 14 years' experience as an English and Maths tutor at Basic Concern, Kip McGrath, A.T.A.S., and Breakthrough Tutorial Services. I have 20 years' experience as a full-time teacher and relief teacher.
