About Erlend
I graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2019 with a postgraduate degree in cello performance. Since I was 11 and throughout my studies I have actively learned music theory, analysis, composition and arranging, and these skills have followed me closely as a performing cellist. I gained distinction in the composition and performance module at the Royal Northern College of Music (2014) and in the orchestration module at the Royal College of Music (2018). My compositions and arrangements have been performed in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, UK and Brazil.
As an academic I do research in early 17th and early 20th centuries performance practices and music theory, analysis, compositional understandings and instrumental knowlegde prove essential in understanding these topics at a deeper level. I have given lecture recitals to a general audience on my research and have received great feedback on my simple explanaitions and pedagogical approach. I have taught since 2006 and have gained much experience since then.

I typically teach music notation, engraving, how to build up a good melody, harmony and harmonic progressions, how to put harmony to a melody, instrumental knowledge and how to write for various instruments, how to create various effects and characters in your own music and how to arrange already written music for other instruments. I am a flexible teacher, so if you have spesific goals such as exams, I will tailor my teaching accordingly. I am also a keen music analyst and I use this to help performers understand the music that they are playing at a deeper level.
I teach beginners up to undergraduate level music students from 10 years old to adults.
