With 10 years of experience applying Datawork's Explicit Direct Instruction, I use warm-ups, objectives, big ideas, "I DO," "WE DO," and "YOU DO" examples to generates slow-release of knowledge from tutor to student. Random non-volunteering is used to transition between lesson elements. For example, if the learning objective is constructed of a noun, verb, and limiting context, then the student will need to explain what the parts of the learning objective are before moving on.
