Know what each digit represents in five- and six- digit numbers. Introduction/Starter/Warm Up Starter: learners count in steps of ten to 100 and back. Repeat in steps of 100 and 1000
Main Activities: Write a four digit number on the board. Ask learners to read the whole number. Ask them to write it in words and partition it, for example ‘four hundred and thirty- seven’ 400 +30+7=437.
Repeat for four-, five- and six- digit numbers. Ask learners to make different four-, five- and six- digit numbers. For each, ask what place value different digit have. Write a few six-digit numbers on the board. Point to some of the digits and ask individuals to tell you what they represent.
