About Thomas

Hi folks!

A little about me - I'm Tom, a Maths & Stats grad that worked within the insurance industry for almost a decade. I then took a sabbatical - spending a year in Argentina where I immersed myself daily in the language and amazing local culture. As a result, I also have an upper-intermediate level of Spanish (B2).

A little about my teaching style - I like to have an introductory call to first assess each student's goals and also understand their current level of ability. Based on this conversation, I can then create a lesson plan (or series of lesson plans) to accommodate their aims. I teach with a strong emphasis on practice, as I believe concepts become more ingrained when students are continually applying the theory, not just learning it.

I really enjoy seeing people reach their goals and, if I can support them along that journey, even better!

About the lesson

My methodology is to use a clear lesson structure for teaching English as a foreign language. This typically includes a short activity to set the scene for the day's topic, introduction of any key concepts, application (i.e. practice!!) and finishing the class with a short summary. I construct a lesson plan prior to each class to ensure that the student meets the objectives of the lesson and that timings are respected.

I offer classes starting from a 30 minute duration up to a 1 hour 30 minute lesson.

My qualifications include:
> Level 3 TEFL Certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
> BSc in Mathematics & Statistics from Newcastle University.

The classes I offer are for students (of any age and abilities) that wish to study English as a foreign language.
